Saw a Broadway play the other day about interracial marriage and racial bias. It was finely acted but had a very sad ending. It was American Son with Kerry Washington, Steven Pasquale and Jeremy Jordan.

The Prom
Longacre Theatre
21 November 2018

Hilarious comedy about Broadway actors looking for publicity by finding a cause they can help publicize which happened to be a discrimination at an upcoming senior prom at a small town in Indiana. The problem they are trying to correct is about a lesbian teenager who wanted to bring her girlfriend as her date for the prom.

Riveting performances by all three members of the cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale.

After a mix-up about dinner at Capital Grille (Virgil went to 42nd Street while I went to 51st Street), we met at the Golden Theatre (hungry) to see The Waverly Gallery, starring Elaine May, Joan Allen, Lucas Hedges and Michael Cera. Sometimes funny but ultimately depressing play about an old lady’s downward spiral due to dementia.

10 October 2018

Our “Dinner Group” (Jennie, George, Terrence, Roland and I; MIA are Deanna, Nonong and Tonette) met at Ikinari Steak at Lexington Ave. I ordered filet mignon medium rare and it was delicious! Topped with garlic chips and a side of corn; a tall glass of Sapporo draft complimented it.

Tonight I went to see the very first preview of King Kong at the Broadway Theatre. It was very interesting how they made the big ape come alive!

I partied with Marlene and Ann at 59E59 Members Cocktail Party meeting some interesting people. Then the three of us walked through Bloomingdale’s and had a nice chat with Phillip, a nice cologne spritzer. Yesterday I saw the matinee performance of Bernhardt/Hamlet with the amazing Janet McTeer.

Wicked
Gershwin Theatre
4 September 2018

Finally got to see “Wicked” after all these years! First act was a little boring until Elphaba sang Defying Gravity. Second act picked up enjoyably! I’ll pick up my take out Halal gyro before going home.

Comfort Women
Peter Jay Sharp Theatre
26 August 2018

Saw the off Broadway musical “Comfort Women,” a story of Korean women used as sex slaves during WW II by the Japanese soldiers. Interesting but not a subject I would like to see as a musical. Image may contain: 1 person, sitting and text

On A Clear Day You Can See Forever

Saw an interesting off-Broadway version of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever starring Melissa Errico last Friday. Earlier had dinner at Shake Shack on Madison Park (Shackburger and strawberry milkshake) with Virgil, Charlton and Mario.

Skintight
Laura Pels Theatre/span>
15 August 2018

Tonight I saw Idina Menzel in Skintight at the Roundabout’s Laura Pels Theatre. A very interesting play about a 70-year old man (with a 20-year old gay partner) and his divorced daughter who has a gay son and whose ex-husband is marrying a 24-year old woman.

Delightful, funny, bitchy, campy and even better than the movie or the original play. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Angels in America: Part 1, Millenium Approaches
Neil Simon Theatre
27 May 2018

Went to a matinee of Angels in America Part 1 Millennium Approaches and it’s still such a powerful drama as when I saw it in 1991. Andrew Garfield stars as Pryor Walker and Nathan Lane was the slimy Roy Cohn.

Coney Island
Coney Island

It was a nice afternoon and evening at Coney Island with Terence.

Carousel
Imperial Theatre
24 May 2018

This latest revival of Carousel is just wonderful. Joshua Henry has a terrific voice. Renee Fleming sang "June Is Bustin' Out All Over" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" most wonderfully. Jessie Mueller held her own. Very enjoyable production.
